Yorkshire is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and picturesque scenery, making it an ideal place for capturing timeless family memories.

I’m Sophie and I’m a Yorkshire family photographer. One of my hobbies is being outdoors, whether that's in and around Yorkshire or heading out to the Peak District, being able to share my love for the outdoors with my clients is the best thing.

My style of photography is perfect for adventure loving families as that spirit and joy reflects beautifully throughout the photos.

Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden

Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden offer a magical setting with their majestic ruins, elegant water features, and gorgeous landscapes. This location provides a variety of scenic backdrops and it is recognised as a World Heritage Site.

If you’re lucky enough, you may be able to encounter an array of beautiful Red, Fallow, and Sika deer, making your family photos truly magical. With a mix of historical charm and natural beauty, this location is one of my favourites when it comes to outdoor family photography in Yorkshire.

Bolton Abbey

Bolton Abbey, nestled in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, offers a combination of historic ruins and stunning natural scenery. The river, woodlands, and open fields provide endless opportunities and backdrops for capturing your family's moments beautifully. 

If you’re looking for an unforgettable outdoor family photography location in Yorkshire, then Bolton Abbey has to be on your list.

The Yorkshire Dales National Park

The Yorkshire Dales National Park is a treasure trove of natural beauty, with its rolling hills, picturesque valleys, and cascading waterfalls. It’s an ideal location for outdoor family photography for those who want their adventurous spirit to reflect in their photos. 

This is a great Yorkshire outdoor photography location due to its expansive and varied landscapes, providing endless opportunities for dynamic and scenic photo photos, you won’t regret it.

Roundhay Park, Leeds

Roundhay Park in Leeds has over 700 acres of rolling parkland, making it a perfect spot for your outdoor family photoshoot in Yorkshire. This is one of the largest urban parks in Europe, with beautiful lakes, vibrant gardens, and wooded areas. The park's diverse settings ensure a variety of stunning backdrops and moods for your photos.

Once your family photography session is over, there’s plenty to do here with the kids, such as visit the Tropical World or the Adventure Trail, or perhaps grab a bite to eat at the Explorer’s Cafe.

The Peak District

I know this blog is about outdoor family photography locations in Yorkshire, but if we move slightly over the Yorkshire border (trust me, this one is worth the exception), we have The Peak District.

The Peak District offers dramatic landscapes that are perfect for your adventurous outdoor family photoshoots. The moorlands, the limestone dales, and picturesque villages, provide beautiful backdrops for capturing your outdoor photography session.

Harewood House and Gardens

Harewood House and Gardens offer a blend of historical elegance and natural beauty, making it a wonderful location for outdoor family photoshoots. The gardens, lake, and woodlands provide a picturesque backdrop for capturing your cherished family moments.

They have recently added an amazing new play area, making it perfect for the kids to enjoy after your family photography session.

Brimham Rocks

Last, but not least, we have the unique Brimham Rocks. This is a fascinating location for an outdoor family photoshoot, with unique rock formations and breathtaking views.

The rocks here have been sculpted by over 320 million years of movement, ice, rain, and wind, making them take on weird and wonderful formations. Some iconic formations to note are the Dancing Bear, the Gorilla, the Eagle, and the Turtle.

This natural wonder offers total freedom and a distinctive and adventurous setting for family photography.
